Prolotherapy

I am currently accepting patients with knee and shoulder pain (other areas considered on a case by case basis).

Conditions that respond well to prolotherapy and platelet rich plasma (PRP):

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Knee injuries
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Pain during exercise or sports
  • Old joint injuries which did not heal fully
  • Sprained ankles
  • Acute injuries (ex. post-MVA)
  • Torn tissues
  • Joint pain that causes day-to-day discomfort

What can you expect with prolotherapy treatment?

Prolotherapy often takes three to four treatments to achieve the full benefits. After the first appointment, you will likely feel sore for a couple of days. I suggest not doing any vigorous activity or exercise for the first five days and taking it slow for the first couple of weeks. Everybody is a little different, but you will know what to expect for the next appointment. PRP usually works faster and does not require as many follow-up sessions.

Why does prolotherapy work?

Prolotherapy and PRP work by restarting the inflammatory process. Both do this by causing some irritation at the site of injury, which in turn signals the body’s healing response to refocus its attention back to that area. The result is that tissues your body once considered “good enough” gets a second, third, and maybe even fourth healing action. This healing work, in turn, will start to strengthen ligaments, tendons, and joint capsules. Poor joint instability can cause pain, and Prolotherapy and PRP help improve that pain by strengthening the tissues around those joints.

If you have an old injury (or a new one) and are tired of being limited by what that injury will allow, then this might be the treatment you are looking for.

All new patients must make a new patient appointment with the office. I might require some screening bloodwork before starting treatment.
